Republican debate tournament among teachers “Kos Anyz”

In honor of the 15th anniversary of Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools, a republican debate tournament among teachers “Kos Anyz” was organized in the NIS of Petropavlovsk.

The event was attended by 12 national teams of the Kazakh league from different regions of the country. The debating teachers vigorously discussed topical issues of education and modern society.

Today, the debate movement is developing well among the country’s students. Schoolchildren participate in various regional and national competitions. However, there are practically no such competitions among the teachers who prepare students for these tournaments. In honor of the 15th anniversary of Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools, the republican tournament “Kos anyz” among debating teachers was organized in the NIS of Petropavlovsk for the first time.

To mark the 15th anniversary of Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools, a republican parliamentary debate tournament is being held, in which 12 different teams from all over Kazakhstan take part. This tournament is held among teachers. I think this is a good mutual practice and narrative for society, that debates are a constructive solution to various problems, moreover, if we take into account that today teachers are judged by students who have many years of experience in the debate movement, then this is the interaction of students and teachers,” says Rustem Armanov, Vice President NGO “National Debate Federation”.

For two days, teachers from Astana, Kokshetau, Pavlodar, Ulytau Semey, Kostanay and North Kazakhstan regions discussed and proposed ways to solve urgent problems in the field of education and society. Daniyar Kemeshev, a history teacher at the Nazarbayev Intellectual School of Semey, has been engaged in debates since his student days. Today he runs the Kagida discussion club and trains young debaters. The teacher notes that he has gained a lot of experience in the tournament.

We have long dreamed of having debate tournaments among teachers as well. We are glad that this idea has been realized in Petropavlovsk. After all, teachers who prepare students for such competitions should have an idea of the format of debates and be able to think critically. This tournament is of great importance for the exchange of experience,” said Daniyar Kemeshev, a history teacher at the Nazarbayev Intellectual School in Semey.

And for Dana Myrzabekova, the path in the debate is just beginning. The history and geography teacher decided to participate in the debate for the first time in her 8-year teaching experience.

When we were in school, we had debates, but in the usual format, where there was only the supporting side and the opposition. In this tournament, we were the closing opposition for all three rounds. It was certainly a little difficult. But we came here to gain experience,” says Dana Myrzabekova, a teacher of history and geography at the Zhezda boarding school in Ulytau region.

The team competition was held in the format of the British Parliament. The speakers also staged heated battles in individual meetings in the Lincoln-Douglas format. Kostanay teacher Dastan Kaliev won the title of “Best Speaker”. The third place among the national teams was taken by the Pavlodar A team. The second and first places were awarded to the teams “Amangeldy Tarlandary” and “Parasat Maidana” of Kostanay. The winners were awarded cash prizes from the sponsor – the local construction supermarket “Sayakhat”. In the future, this tournament will be held traditionally within the walls of Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools in the Kazakh, Russian and English leagues.
