NIS teachers shared their experience

The XVIII International Scientific and Practical Conference “Transition from online education to traditional: application of distance learning strategies in the classroom” was held at the M.Kozybayev North Kazakhstan University.
The event organized by the Association of Teachers of the English Language of the North Kazakhstan Region “ATENK” and the National Association of Teachers of the English Language KazTEA was attended by teachers of the Nazarbayev Intellectual School of Chemical and Biological direction of Petropavlovsk.
The purpose of the conference was to discuss the problems and opportunities of teaching a foreign language in the era of digitalization, taking into account national conditions within the updated curriculum and taking into account mixed and hybrid learning formats.
The conference brought together more than 150 English teachers from all over the country. Teachers of the Nazarbayev Intellectual School of Petropavlovsk also took part in it. Teachers of the English language of the school, chemistry, physics and computer science teaching their subject in English broadcast the experience of Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools.
On the first day of the conference, NIS teachers organized several seminars. Ksenia Volkova, an English teacher, held a seminar for colleagues on the topic of podcasts in an inverted classroom. Teachers got acquainted with podcast planning strategies, a platform for creating and editing them, and also received examples of feedback sessions to improve the learning process in an inverted classroom. The seminar conducted by Olesya Vodopyanova was dedicated to inclusive education. Jesinta Karingiti and Vladimir Rahmail presented to the participants a seminar on international cooperation using UN model clubs at the Nazarbayev Intellectual School in Petropavlovsk. During Marina Mikhailova’s seminar, teachers from all over the republic got acquainted with the possibilities of an online educational resource socrative.com , which allows you to evaluate students’ knowledge, as well as provide feedback to students. Foreign teacher Silvanus Opot spoke about the features of TCLs and SCLs. And Dastan Miyashev’s seminar was dedicated to the development of soft skills using offline RPGs, scratch games, Minecraft quests.
Rory Jan M. Bualan told colleagues about metacognition, and about helping students develop their own
teaching method or prepare for exams.
On the second day, NIS teachers also shared their experiences during poster sessions at workshops. Elena Kiiko presented her poster of exercises with synonyms that will help improve the quality of the essay. Aisulu Kozhanova shared her experience of using the methods of the CLIL strategy to improve the academic literacy of students. Reed Bauermeister shared digital strategies for active learning and student assessment. Gulmira Yensegenova worked with colleagues on the issues of planning and procedures of the Lesson Study. Elvira Lyutova and Aigul Sarken spoke about data-based learning (DDL).
At the end of the international scientific and practical conference, the participants received certificates and letters of thanks. The next conference will be held in Semey.
