Acquaintance with the history of “tenge”

Students of the Nazarbayev Intellectual School in Petropavlovsk visited the exhibition dedicated to the day of the national currency – tenge.

On November 15, Kazakhstan celebrates the Day of the national currency – tenge. It was on this day in 1993 that a new currency was introduced into circulation in the country. The history of the independent monetary and economic policy of the independent republic begins from this moment. This day is also considered a professional holiday for employees of the country’s financial system. In honor of the holiday, an exhibition was organized at the Abylai Khan Residence together with the National Bank of the country. The children were told about when Kazakhstan left the ruble zone and about the design of various samples of banknotes.

– The specialists began their work with the study of the historical aspects of the development of the culture of Kazakhstan. The idea to name the currency “tenge” belongs to the well-known Kazakhstani economist Sauk Takezhanov. The development of the national currency was done in a fairly short time – in one year. Nevertheless, tenge is of high quality and it is quite difficult to counterfeit it, – told the children the guide of the Nazgul Beysembina residence .

The guys also saw bargaining coins with a denomination of 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 tiyn, which were withdrawn from circulation, coins of money circulation from the nickel-silver alloy with denominations of 1, 3, 5, 10, 20 tenge and collectible coins dedicated to memorable historical events, significant dates of Kazakhstan and personalities who have made a significant contribution to the development of the country.
